21 Mar Fitness Holidays are the hottest Leisure & Tourism trend in 2025!
The era of ‘fly and flop’ holidays is over! A recent Body Holiday Survey found that 85% of Brits are now seeking holidays that actively promote health and fitness, and will enable them to return home in an improved state of body and mind.
So it’s official, Fitness Holidays are the hottest new trend in leisure and tourism… Which means Atlantic Reach is officially ahead of the curve, because we’ve been offering Fitness Holidays for years!
So whether you’re a couple looking for a calorie-burning getaway, a family searching for an active break that appeals to all ages, or a group of friends seeking adrenaline and adventure – read on to discover more about our Fitness Holidays at Atlantic Reach…
Is a Fitness Holiday right for you?
A recent study* discovered that over 60% of holidaymakers are now choosing holidays that will positively improve their health, and look to make fitness activities a core element of their trip.
The study also revealed that 37% of people WANT to stick to their regular gym routines while they are away – no one likes to see those hard-won gains slip away!
Why are people prioritising fitness while on holiday? Let’s look at the stats…
- 33% of travellers want to improve their physical health
- 31% want to reduce stress and anxiety
- 29% want to prioritise mental health and mindfulness
- 22% fancy trying water-based activities, like surfing or swimming
Paul Joseph, Co-founder of Health and Fitness Travel, says “Gone are the days when people want to return from holiday feeling sluggish with waistbands that little bit tighter. With our collective life spans increasing by approximately 30 years, the importance of a healthy lifestyle has never been so important… A health and fitness holiday can be a great way to reset the body, learn a new approach and develop good habits to bring home.”
Parents are also taking the lead in this culture shift, with 48% wanting to take active family holidays to encourage their children to choose movement over screen time. David Taylor, CEO of Neilson Beach Clubs says, “Limiting screen time means kids can get stuck into new activities… It’s all about finding a balance that works for you, leaving time to soak up local culture while enjoying the physical and mental health benefits of an active holiday.”

Enjoy the best of Cornwall on your Fitness Holiday
One of the best things about Atlantic Reach is its prime location, close to many of Cornwall’s greatest attractions and beaches. By basing yourself here, you’ll have a wealth of ocean and inland adventures at your fingertips, the North and South coasts within striking distance, and endless options for days-out – perfect for active families who love Cornwall!
No trip to Cornwall is complete without a thigh-burning hike – or run – along the South West Coast Path. Regardless of the distance you travel or the section you choose, you’ll be blown away by the stunning scenery. Incredible beaches, wildlife spotting opportunities and postcard-worthy landscapes are constant companions along the route. The 630 mile South West Coast Path is a UK National Trail, and commonly regarded as one of the greatest trails in the world – it also has the starring role in the 2025 film adaption of The Salt Path.
Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned pro, there is no better place to surf or bodyboard in the UK than Newquay. World-famous Fistral beach is on your doorstep, and the more gentle waves in Newquay Bay offer great learning conditions year-round. If you’re looking for a workout then there are few sports more invigorating than surfing – and all those burpees you’ve been doing in the gym will finally get their moment in the spotlight! We recommend our friends at SSS Surf School in Newquay – who are simply the best!
Newquay is one of the best places in the county to try coasteering, a super fun land and ocean adventure that combines swimming, caving, climbing and jumping. An expert guide you’ll journey along the coastline, allowing you to get close to nature and explore a side of Newquay that not many people get to see. We recommend Freddie and the team at Newquay Coasteering!
If you like cycling, Cornwall has it all. Our scenic coastal roads make a great road bike circuit and due to the shape of the county both the north and south coasts can easily be enjoyed in a single route. The Camel Trail is a 17 mile family-friendly bike trail from Padstow to Wenford Bridge, via Wadebridge and Bodmin – with plenty of bike hire options if you aren’t bringing your own wheels. Also, nearby Cardinham Woods and Bodmin Moor offer plenty of off-road biking opportunities for those who like the rush of mountain biking.
Cornwall isn’t all adrenaline though, we are also masters of ‘chill’! We have more sea pools to cool off in, and beach saunas to warm up in, than you can shake a stick at, and thoroughly recommend these as part of a rounded fitness routine!
You’re probably familiar with Blue Mind Theory – the idea that being near water can improve mental health and well-being – and we have to agree that time spent outdoors in Cornwall does wonders for your health and a positive mental state. Don’t believe us? Come and see for yourself!
